Five wedding films, five visual worlds
For the Vivo Wedding Films campaign, the production-design challenge was not to create one generic “Indian wedding” look. Each film needed its own cultural identity, ceremony logic, colour rhythm and spatial language while still feeling like part of one campaign.
Set Craft developed the environments around what the camera needed to read quickly: regional cues, ceremony details, floral language, textiles, architecture, props, furniture and the relationship between performers and the surrounding space. The work moved between intimate rituals and larger celebratory frames, so every environment had to support both storytelling and product-led cinematography.
The campaign included a Two States wedding world combining Punjabi and Malayalam references, a Manipuri wedding film, a South Indian wedding film, a Bengali wedding film and a North Indian wedding film.
Two States — Punjabi and Malayalam wedding language

The Two States film required two cultural identities to exist within the same visual narrative without becoming visually fragmented. Rather than treating the frame as a collection of obvious cultural symbols, the design direction focused on a controlled mix of colour, material, floral treatment and ceremonial detail.
The result is a wedding environment where the cultural contrast supports the story while the frame remains cohesive. The set dressing is selective, the visual hierarchy stays clear, and the stronger regional cues appear where the camera can actually read them.

Manipuri wedding — ceremony, movement and open composition

The Manipuri film demanded a lighter and more open visual composition. The production design had to respect the ceremony and regional character while leaving enough breathing room for movement, performance and wider camera frames.
Instead of over-dressing the set, the visual language relies on carefully placed ceremonial details, textile cues, natural materials, floral accents and a restrained spatial rhythm. This keeps the environment culturally specific without overwhelming the people in the frame.

South Indian wedding — ritual detail and controlled warmth

The South Indian wedding environment was shaped through ceremonial detail, floral styling, drapery, warm materials and a composition designed around the principal ritual action. The visual system needed to feel festive but not ornamental for its own sake.
Foreground elements, ceremony objects and background dressing were planned so that the eye moves naturally toward the couple and the central action. The regional identity comes through the combination of details rather than one oversized decorative gesture.

Bengali wedding — graphic contrast, ceremony and texture

The Bengali wedding film uses a more graphic visual identity. Red, white, floral detail and ceremonial objects give the frame an immediate cultural read, while the architecture and dressing remain controlled enough for performance and product visibility.
The approach was to build the regional character through layers: the ritual zone, floral treatment, textile choices, props and the smaller lived-in details surrounding the main action. This creates a fuller world without making the set feel like a decorative backdrop.

North Indian wedding — scale, celebration and cinematic layering

The North Indian wedding world allowed a richer, more layered visual treatment. Floral elements, warm decorative lighting, furniture, textiles and depth-building details create a larger celebratory environment while still protecting the primary camera action.
The set is designed in layers rather than as a flat background. Foreground objects, the performance zone and the dressed background work together so the cinematographer can find multiple compositions without losing the hierarchy of the frame.

What connects the five films
Although the regional identities change, the production-design discipline remains consistent across the campaign:
- Cultural detail is selected for the camera. The goal is not to display every possible reference, but to choose the details that communicate most clearly in the intended frame.
- Colour supports hierarchy. Strong festive palettes are controlled so the performers and product remain readable.
- Props explain ceremony and activity. Objects are chosen because they belong to the event, not simply because a surface looks empty.
- Depth is planned spatially. Foreground, middle ground and background are treated as separate layers so the camera has useful composition options.
- Regional identity comes from systems, not symbols. Textile, florals, furniture, materials, props and ceremony logic work together to create specificity.
Production design for wedding and festive advertising films
Wedding and festive campaigns often need to communicate culture, celebration and brand identity in a very short screen time. That makes production design especially important: the audience has to understand where they are, what kind of celebration is happening and how the characters belong to that environment almost immediately.
For Set Craft, the process begins with the script and cultural context, then moves through visual references, spatial planning, colour and material direction, set dressing, props, fabrication and final-frame adjustments. The objective is a camera-ready environment that feels specific to the story rather than generically “festive.”
