Set Craft Atelier

Research before the brief.

Material, colour, light, form and cinematic space explored as an ongoing production-design research practice.

What the Atelier is

Not a portfolio. A working room for ideas.

Set Craft Atelier is where we test visual language before it is tied to a client brief. Some studies begin with a material, a palette or an architectural form. Others begin with a camera problem, a cultural reference, a season, a fashion world or a particular quality of light.

The purpose is not to create generic inspiration boards. It is to study how design decisions behave as spatial systems — and how those systems might later inform production design, set construction, content spaces or brand environments.

Selected Studies

Ideas developed beyond a single image.

Each study builds a visual world through research, spatial logic, material thinking and image-making — revealing the decisions behind atmosphere, form and composition.

What we study

01

Material

Surface, tactility, ageing, reflection, fabrication logic and how materials behave under light.

02

Colour

Palette systems, tonal relationships, saturation, contrast and how colour changes emotional temperature.

03

Light

Daylight, practicals, fall-off, contrast, colour temperature and the architecture created by illumination.

04

Form

Arches, planes, thresholds, rhythm, negative space, scenic structure and graphic composition.

05

Camera

Lens depth, visual hierarchy, framing, movement and how a designed environment changes across shots.

06

Culture

Regional cues, ritual, objects, architecture and the difference between specificity and generic styling.

Visual Notebooks

Shorter spatial experiments.

These are exploratory compositions rather than commissioned projects. They remain useful as records of palette, geometry, texture and atmosphere.

One study / many decisions

Mystic Garden as a complete design system.

The finished world is only one layer. A useful study also asks how the environment is planned, lit, built, repeated and changed.

From research to production

Atelier studies are not templates to copy.

The value of the Atelier is in building a deeper visual vocabulary. When commissioned work begins, the relevant principles can be reinterpreted for a new script, brand, location, budget and production condition rather than reproduced literally.
